What is the best way to cover romex when it is on top of sheetrock insted of buried behind it?

I have romex cable running up the corner of my bedroom into the attic in order to supply power to the attic.

cover the corner, diagonally,wall to wall – floor to ceiling,with a 3 ” piece of sheet-rock.

I think it wastes electricity, and most appliances should be turned off when you leave the room, if you’re interested in saving electricity.
Cost: No more than a couple cents/hour.
Suggest: You and your room mate compromise. The fan is important to conserve energy by moderating the room temperature, so there are not hot-spots or cold-spots. But, you can decide, that if a person is in the room more than the room is empty, leave the fan on, so that the room will be more comfortable the majority of the time. However, if the room is unoccupied more than it is occupied, that is, the room is empty more than 12 hours a day, then you’ll conserve electricity by leaving in off until one of you return.

I am a landlord and I hire roofers. I also have installed attic ventilation fans. In my opinion this would not be the best way to go because heat rises. The attic fan is not at the top of the roof the ridge vent is, so it would be pulling air from the top. I would think it would be better to install a gable vent fan instead. this would pull cooler air in from lower and then the hot air would go out through the ridge. You may have to cut holes for the gable fans to do this though.

If you have soffit vents as well as the ridge vent, I personally would not put in the fan as the cooler air would enter through the soffits and hot air would exit through the ridge vent.

Also, the most important bit for keeping your home comfortable is adequate and properly installed insulation in the attic.
