My Roommate complains that having my room fan (plugged into the wall) on all day while i’m gone costs more $.?
I disagree. I say that it keeps my room cool and really doesn’t use that much energy. The fan is one of those 3 1/2 ft tall fans and is plugged into a standard outlet. Does anyone know the dollar ammount that that actually uses? I live in Phoenix.
I think it wastes electricity, and most appliances should be turned off when you leave the room, if you’re interested in saving electricity.
Cost: No more than a couple cents/hour.
Suggest: You and your room mate compromise. The fan is important to conserve energy by moderating the room temperature, so there are not hot-spots or cold-spots. But, you can decide, that if a person is in the room more than the room is empty, leave the fan on, so that the room will be more comfortable the majority of the time. However, if the room is unoccupied more than it is occupied, that is, the room is empty more than 12 hours a day, then you’ll conserve electricity by leaving in off until one of you return.
