I need advice on our thermostat settings. We have been using the fan with the auto setting, now It won’t auto
the heat and air both work fine with the auto. last week the fan worked fine with the auto function-where it would shut the fan off at when the house reached the desired temp. now i’m wondering if i had it on fan only not auto? I’m sure the fan was working on auto.any ideas would be helpful. also any ideas on furnace and air maintence-basic I can do now prior to our inspection in the fall. We have never had it cleaned or inspected. It’s only six years old. I hope this question makes sense. thanks in advance.
With the fan on auto, the fan cycles with the t-stat. Leaving the fan on ON, the fan runs continuously until you turn it back to Auto. The A/C will cycle on the t-stat setting, but the fan will continue to run. This helps circulate the air better, and it also helps in some cases to cool “hard to cool” rooms. You will probably have to change the filters more often. Also, the blower motor uses the air circulating through the system to help cool the motor, so unless the motor is already bad, you shouldn’t have any blower issues. Make sure to add a few drops of oil to the oil ports on the motor twice a year. The regular maintenance should be every spring wash out the condenser coil in the spring and change the filter. Oil the motor outside and oil the blower inside. In the fall, change filters and oil the blower motor. I hope this answers the question!! Good luck!
