Can I convert my ’67 beetle to a alternator just by pullin the generator and installing the alternator?
I have pulleys, shimms, backing plates.
I guess I need to know if wiring is an issue and relays and voltage regulators and such
the alternator I’m going to has a built in regulator. the generator had an external. So do I bypass it or just wire it in anyways.
That is an interesting question. An alternator has built in rectifiers that convert the AC current to DC, so what comes out of an alternator is essentually DC. The problem comes in the controlling regulator. It may not match the alternator. In fact most likely not.
